Tips for Success!   (Parents – Be sure to check out the ‘Kids Corner’ on our website: www.FloLifeBJJ.com/kidscorner)

168 is a fairly important number!  It’s the number of hours in a 7-day week.  If you have kids, family school or work or some combination of all of them…then this number is crucial!  So how do we fit kids, BJJ, school, work into our busy week?  You have to be organized and creative!  Tips for success:  Make an appointment with yourself – Schedule your training out a week in advance.  Pick your days…make a commitment, no distractions.  Master the mini stretch – Put a yoga mat next to your bed and get mini stretches in any chance you can.  Especially in the morning and right before sleep!  Mental Reps – When you’re driving, downtime at work, etc.  use this time to go over techniques you’re learning, specific grappling scenarios, reviewing BJJ notes.  Limit Screen Time – Instead of playing games and going on social media – use your screen time to review videos.  We have tons of free video content on the BJJAfter40 and Jiu-Jitsu Brotherhood sites.  Private Instruction – If you’re struggling with getting to class or just need a little extra help – maybe a private class is for you!  You can schedule a private class with an instructor that can be 100% catered to your schedule and needs. Private lessons are great for extra help, tune ups, learning specific techniques, building game plans and strategizing, etc.

Looking to take your training to the next level through healthy, conscious eating?  Join us on Saturday 4/14 at Vitamin Cottage, Mission Trace from 1:00 PM – 2:30 PM for a FREE cooking demonstration and talk with Sheena.  Learn how to prepare healthy, vegan food that tastes amazing and supports your training!  Tell all of your friends and family and join us for great food and conversation!

Recovery Tips for post training  Regardless of whether you’re 24 or 44 you have to allot time for recovery between classes.  The word ‘recovery’ means to return to a normal state of health.  Martial arts training is going to cause sore muscles.  Your goal is to be sore not injured.  However, sore muscles can make day-to-day life difficult especially if you have a physically active job.  Tips to relieve soreness and promote recovery:  Hot Epsom salt baths are amazing for inflammation and soreness.  (Check out www.mansalt.com) for awesome muscle soaks.  Your body will absorb the magnesium which is incredible for aching muscles.  Stretching daily will not only promote flexibility but will also loosen tight muscles.  Build a daily ritual around stretching.  It takes very little space and you can do it almost anywhere.  Eat and sleep well.  Make sure you’re eating and drinking clean (especially on training days).  Get a good nights sleep very night.  Meditation is excellent for promoting good sleep.  I  recommend meditation as a daily practice.  Start with a 10-20 minute mindful meditation and build on it.

Private Instruction  Private and semi-private classes are available at Flo Life BJJ for both kids and adults.  Classes can focus on BJJ, kickboxing, self-defense, diet / weight loss and more.  See staff for details and scheduling.
